TOURISM SECTOR IN INDIA:

Tourism brings large amounts of income into a local economy in the form of payment for goods and services needed by tourists, accounting as of 2011 for 30% of the world’s trade in services, and, as an invisible export, for 6% of overall exports of goods and services.

Tourism in India is important for the country’s economy and is growing rapidly. The World Travel and Tourism Council calculated that tourism generated $240 billion 9.2% of India‘s GDP in 2018 and supported 42.673 million jobs. 

In October 2015, India’s medical tourism sector was estimated to be worth US$3 billion, and it is projected to grow to US$7–8 billion by 2020. 

Over 10 million foreign tourists arrived in India in 2017 compared to 8.89 million in 2016, representing a growth of 15.6%. 

In 2014, Tamil NaduMaharashtra and Uttar Pradesh were the most popular states for tourists. 

DelhiMumbaiChennaiAgra and Jaipur were the five most visited cities of India by foreign tourists during the year 2015.

DEMOGRAPHICS OF INDIA

Every seventh person in the total world population lives in India. In terms of area, India stands seventh in the world. In fact total population of Australia, North America, South America added together is much less than that of India. India is expected to surpass china as most populous country by 2027.                                       

Density and distribution of population: Indian population is unevenly distributed. Some parts are densely populated while some are sparsely populated. Density of population can be calculated by dividing the total population of a country or a region by the total area. As comparison of population of different countries or region becomes more meaningful if it is done by comparing the average density of population of each area. This is an expression of man-land ratio.
